Like many, Kris Ekstand Moleworth’s artwork is inexorably linked to where she lives and what she has learned there. In her solo debut at Smith & Vallee Gallery Ekstrand Molesworth’s artwork combines the aching beauty of a landscape with its invisible, often darker, narrative.
This exhibition will feature a new series of Skagit based monotypes with reoccurring imagery of aging granaries, barns, sheds, and the edge of the land where the river infiltrates the bay. Each unique monotype has been printed using a hand-cranked etching press on handmade rag paper. Ekstrand Molesworth pulls each monotype through the press several times, giving her work ethereal and ghostly qualities.
